Start at the Centennial Museum to unlock more of Fuquay-Varina’s past
The museums complex connects a post office, schoolhouse, caboose and other collections through docent-led access.

A schoolhouse, a post office and a caboose tell different stories about how a town worked. Fuquay-Varina’s museums complex brings those everyday settings together with collections that invite a closer look at local life beyond the broad outline of a town timeline.
The museums are at 131 South Fuquay Avenue. The organization asks visitors to begin at the Centennial Museum, where a docent can help guide the visit. The post office and schoolhouse are not typically staffed separately, so an open-looking building should not be treated as an invitation to enter independently.
The complex includes six museums: the first Fuquay post office, the Squire Ballentine Schoolhouse, the Centennial Museum, a tobacco barn, the Johnson Playhouse and Norfolk Southern caboose number 375. Contact the museum to confirm current hours and arrangements, particularly for a group or a visit built around one feature.
Bring one question about an ordinary part of life: how a message arrived, what a school day required or how goods traveled. Ask which objects or records help answer it. A focused question can turn a collection of old buildings into a more memorable encounter with the people who used them.
